When The Water Runs Out: Farming In A Drought

Last fall I wrote a profile of a farmer I met at the Santa Monica farmers market. Usually he sells a great variety of leafy greens and root vegetables. When I saw him at the end of summer in 2014, all he was selling were potatoes and a few other hearty vegetables. The problem for James Birch and Flora Bella Farms was the drought. Given all the press recently about the drought in California, I wanted to share the profile I wrote for Zester Daily last fall.
